Just when we mastered Excel, Logger Pro, and tech-based data collection – the AP Physics Exam starts emphasizing simple lab equipment and graphical analysis!
This double-sided worksheet allows you to teach graphical analysis BEFORE the physics.
Just like the skills needed for the APPhysics Exam, the equation that fits the data must be selected and manipulated to fit the model.
*some quantities must be squared before plotting
*the quantity in the first column is not plotted on the x-axis
*the slope is not the "answer", but is used to get the answer
*the desired quantity is the intercept in one equation
*all examples require students to determine their own graph scale
*one example requires students to compare their quantity to an accepted value
I used this in my AP Physics class last year and it seemed to help a lot.
It does not address significant figures, error bars, or include units. You add those topics throughout the year when you use REAL Physics equations.
