In Graphing For Beginners, the skills of recording information (data) on a bar graph and interpreting that information are broken down into ‘baby steps’ to help little ones understand the step-by-step thinking process concerning graphing. It is expected that students will have had some exposure to creating and interpreting bar graphs as a whole group class activity.
Included in this package:
8 ‘Just Graph It’ mats
9 Response sheets
2 Graphing Center signs with student instructions
1 page (12 cards) vocabulary to help with activities
1 page (4 cards) of Answer Keys
1 page (120 cards) of game pieces
There are 8 ‘Just Graph It’ mats included in this unit. #1 - #4 are simple graphing activities to be used in a center possibly on a magnetic board. The students will build 3 graphs with the game pieces and then compare the information on a response sheet. Use of color words, the terms ‘most’ and ‘least’ and addition to 12 are practiced with the ‘data’.
The next 4 ‘Just Graph It’ mats help develop understanding of the basic bar graph appearance while providing unlimited practice recording data. Game pieces are provided as well as response sheets for interpreting the data. There is a blank graph for further practice with classroom manipulatives, if desired.
