Inequalities can be taught as an isolated skill, but there is a lot of rich mathematics and connections that can be made.
The approach of this lesson is to create such connections and to help students to learn how to read and discover procedures that are seen as a consequence of the mathematics, instead of seeing procedures as the mathematics.
This lesson encourages reading and writing of mathematics and makes concrete the ideas of inequalities. Students should be able to approach inequalities from many directions after working through this lesson.
There is a quality homework set at the end of the lesson. Below is a video that I have created using this powerpoint. Teaching a lesson is far different than narrating a video, but the structure is similar.
