At this point in your students' experience of learning to graph linear equations, they are beginning to notice that there are multiple variations available to them in order to graph a linear equation. In this lesson, they learn to graph a straight line by finding the x and y intercepts. Additionally, they will learn to 'scale' their graph to fit comfortably, as needed, on the x and y axis. They are also provided with an example in a real life situation; they use the intercepts to graph an equation and find the number of railroad employees working within a specific range of time. Finally, I have inserted a number of problems for the students to practice, and there are a couple of slides where they can demonstrate their understanding of this new concept. Answers are provided for their convenience in checking the solutions they found. I sincerely enjoy making these power points and hope you find them helpful in guiding your students through this wonderful discipline that we all know and love, mathematics. Thank you and have an outstanding day!
