Product Description
This LAB finally allows the students to SEE motion and record it in the same way as a Distance-Time Graph! Using a large piece of paper, students will mark the path of the toys and measure the actual distance. (I have included two options--one Set with Actual Distance and Displacement measures and graphing--one Set with only Actual Distance measuring and graphing and NO Displacement.)
This great TEAM LAB- first, records the MOTION of a Wind-UP Toy and then, the MOTION of a rolling Marble down a ramp. Students must mark where the object is at every second, so that they can create a Distance-Time GRAPH. I have included 2 different Pre-Formatted Graphs for you to choose from. Once both Graphs are completed, TEAMS will discuss Conclusion Questions, answer them, and Calculate Average Speed using the Formula.
I really hope you enjoy this LAB, as I know your students will--my kids always do! Don't let Motion Graphs be a boring topic! Get them to explore these concepts themselves with my Hands-On, Self-Directed ActionLAB! --always in Scientific Method format--although this is actually a Descriptive Investigation or Scientific Observation, as nothing is really being tested.
This is one of two new LABs in my NEW Motion Graphs complete UNIT--5E's+way more than you'll ever need! All my UNITs are active and fun, full of many grouping opportunities, and include ways to differentiate and scaffold for all ESL, SpEd, Dyslexia, or other special and wonderful differences. I include and plan for many Accommodations required in IEPs--like Preteaching Vocab, Using Choices BOARDs with different expectations, Scaffolding Frames with 3 levels for my Multimedia GraphiQ Explain Presentations, and more. I'll never offer Science-Light, nor things that require a ga-zillion copies and make your Journals/Notebooks look like a workbook! I aim for an active and fun, but rigorous and relevant classroom, with student-directed Action ACTivities! and ActionLABs!, CARD Sorts & Vocab MatchUP Races, GraphiQ MAPs and Games--so that the kids can discover and practice the wonders of Science and learn to work in different groupings.
I included my Motion Graphs Word WALLCARDs for Distance-TIme and SPEED-Time Graphs, and my NO FAIL-4 step Method for Analyzing Motion Graphs-- FREE! So, please come back and check out the new products I'm continually uploading from my 20+ years in the classroom, or simply follow me for automatic emails. I hope this will help you ROCK the Science in your CLASSROOM! Please let me know if I can help you in any way!
Sincerely,
Jana--Science Rocks with Smalley!
