I like a spend a day to introduce the graphing of quadratics to my algebra students: I want them to understand how the overall shape will look, how to apply the order of operations to an expression such as -x^2 vs. -(x^2), and I want them to know basic vocabulary terms, such as the vertex and axis of symmetry.
I use this activity within cooperative groups, and I circulate to make sure they are getting the purpose of the questions.
