After seeing some Algebra 1 students draw a straight line for a parabola on last years final exam, I designed this lesson.
This lesson takes students through adjust the window of the TI Nspire calculator based on the contextual question. The main goal is to find the vertex so that they can estimate how large their window should be. The homework assignment does not require a graphing calculator, just that students are able to calculate the vertex and determine what would be an appropriate viewing window.
This lesson includes notes, homework and an exit card. There are more than enough scenarios for students to spend two days in class working on this.
