A kinesthetic activity where students work together to graph, solve and check a systems of equation “Snowball”.
This product contains the handout needed for a snowball activity to get students to work together in solving a system of equations by graphing. There are two differentiated versions.
To prep for this activity you will need to make a double-sided copy of the handout, then slice the middle to separate the two copies.
In addition, you will need rulers for students and you will need to display the teacher slide on your front board.
When I implemented this in class I arranged my student desks in a circle and we threw our snowballs in the middle each time. To discourage students from throwing them inappropriately I placed a target in the middle of the circle and we had a competition each round to see who could land their snowball closest to the target. The winner got a piece of candy.
The circular arrangement also allowed me to walk around and review each students’ work at each step.
I highly suggest you start each step by having students verify the steps that were done before they received their snowball. I also required students to check their work with their left- and right-hand elbow partners before they could crumple up their snowballs.
