In this activity, students will practice graphing tangent and cotangent functions and identify their characteristics. More specifically, students will:
· Graph a tangent or cotangent function
· Identify the domain and range of various tangent and cotangent functions
· Determine the amplitude, period, phase shift, vertical shift, and asymptotes of a tangent or cotangent function
· Match a tangent or cotangent function to its graph
*Note: This activity asks students to graph functions of the form y = A tan(Bx + C) + D or y = A cot(Bx + C) + D.*
Students will be given a student activity sheet containing eight tangent and cotangent functions. They will also be given eight cards containing a different set of eight tangent and cotangent functions. Students will need to graph the functions on their student activity sheet and identify their characteristics. Then, learners will match each of the eight function cards with one function on the student activity sheet that shares the same graph and characteristics. Students will finish the activity by pasting their matching function cards in the blank space provided on their worksheet.
This resource contains a 2-page student activity sheet, eight cards for students to match, directions, and an answer key! Check out the preview for a closer look at the functions in this activity!
