Included in the zip folder are 11 Power Point files. 5 are introductory lessons and 6 are assignment files. A brief description of each:
Intro file #1 is a 19 slide file. The emphasis is end behavior as limits of infinity. The student learns to distinguish between asymptotes and infinite end behavior. Also, the student learns how to determine if the graph is above or below the horizontal asymptote.
Intro file #2 is a 46 slide file. The emphasis is finding the interceptions of the graph and the x and y axes. Vertical asymptotes are also discussed. The student analyzes the left and right side of the vertical asymptote in order to sketch its graph. This being the limits of discontinuity is discussed.
Intro #3 is a 12 slide file. The emphasis is when a hole in the graph occurs vs a vertical asymptote.
Intro #4 is a 48 slide file. 3 rational functions are graphed as formative assessment or whole class instruction. Quotient asymptotes are not part of the instruction.
Intro #5 is a 9 slide file. The emphasis is how to find a quotient asymptote.
Assignment #1 is a 20 question matching assignment. The student matches the end behavior to a function. In doing so, the student must identify if the graph is over or under the horizontal asymptotes in left and right end behavior. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #2 is a 15 question multiple choice assignment. The emphasis is identifying the end behavior of a rational function. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #3 is a 20 question multiple choice assignment. The emphasis is identifying both the vertical and horizontal asymptotes of rational functions. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #4 is a 20 question multiple choice assignment. The emphasis is where a rational function intercepts the x and y axis, vertical asymptotes and limits of points of discontinuity. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #5 is a 24 question multiple choice assignment. This assignment is a review of the 1st 4 assignments. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #6 is a 6 problem 6 page file. On each page the student is asked to identify:
1. The x intercepts(if any)
2. The y intercept (if any)
3. The vertical asymptotes
4. The horizontal asymptote(if any)
The student then graphs the function.
Lastly, the student writes all the infinite limits and limits of points of discontinuity to describe the function.
