This unit serves as a final for the year for my seniors. They take a test (not included), compare their first essay to their last essay, learn about and then write two thank-you cards (which are then mailed from the school), and write a reflective final essay about one of the recipients of their cards.

This file includes a daily plan (detailed enough for a substitute to follow), a worksheet for comparing essays, the essay assignment sheet and rubric, a handout on proper thank-you card writing, and a few poems that could be added as journal topics or otherwise included in the essay.

While this final is intended for seniors, it is easily adaptable to younger students. Wording on the handout and time spent are simple adjustments to the level of your students.
