Here are two labs to help support your lessons on gravity, and allow students to practice with experimental design and Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning.
Each lab is 1 page, front and back. They are written to be succinct and allow students to determine how best to answer the question given.
These support the standard:
5-PS2-1. Support an argument that the gravitational force exerted by Earth on objects is directed down.
Students will perform experiments to answer two questions:
How does an object's shape affect the time it takes to fall?
How does an object's mass affect the time it takes to fall?
Each lab is designed to complete in about 45-60 minutes, or one class session.
For each lab, students will:
A teacher's guide is included, along with sample answers for each lab. Each lab requires minimal supplies and prep. Students are very engaged and get practice with important science skills.
