One of the best ways to get students to think critically is to engage their evaluation skills. After teaching the concepts of gravity (both Einstein and Newton’s versions), Newton’s Laws, and a bit of space history, the following activity is an outstanding way to tie the concepts together and evaluate the students’ knowledge of those topics. During the course of the film, students fill out the evaluation form by deciding if the science involved in certain scenes is good science or bad science based upon their knowledge of the topic. Provided for the instructor is a key that answers all of the questions using the most recent information regarding each question. Three articles are also included that describe certain situations in the film and what astrophysicists felt about those scenes as well.
