Anthony, Alexander Graham Bell, Benjamin Franklin, the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, and Neil Armstrong. Perfect for close readings or student research.

• Making the World a Better Place – (Critique and Apply) Let students judge the actions and achievements of these famous Americans to determine how each person has helped to make the world a better place and then start thinking about how they can also work toward making the world a better place today.

• Student response sheets for each famous person to be used with the included biographies – (Recall, Critique) Includes student responses for recalling 3 facts for each person, defining new vocabulary, understanding what the world was like during each person’s lifetime, determining important things each American did during their lifetime and their most important accomplishment.

• Creating a Timeline – One timeline page for each historical figure for students to fill in by adding important events.

• 20 Quotes for Thinking and Discussion – Includes 4 activities for class discussions as well as questions for discussion to help small groups discuss the quotes. All 20 of the quotes are formatted on cards without attributions for the “Who Might Have Said This?” activity as well as one-page versions with attributions.

• Important Questions while Studying Biographies page for whole class or small group discussions

• One-page graphic organizer for recording information from research that includes: birth, childhood, beliefs, accomplishments, 3 things everyone should know and the reason he/she became famous to be used with book(s) and internet information.

• Group research booklet

• Directions for an inexpensive DIY puppet theater

• How to include parents for a successful sock puppet making experience

• Bonus links to art projects, discussion stems and historical picture books to go with this unit
