Product Description
This is an alternative assessment which includes students using drawing and creativity. I use this activity to help students synthesize what the Great Depression is and what it’s effects were on people. I begin this activity by having students read the Annie comic strip, available online. I tell them that this is a primary source from the 30s. Students can annotate the comic for connections to the Great Depression. Then I present them with the task of creating their own comic strip. I print out some options of comic strip graphic organizers, included in document. I print out the worksheet/ assignment. Students can work in pairs or by themselves to create a comic strip. (This year I modeled a comic about the dustbowl –We created a character (Sally) and her life before the dustbowl, her life during the dustbowl, and what happened to Sally because of the dustbowl.)
Word Bank included for ESL students.
