Product Description
This lesson plan collection includes three lesson plans covering key events and people of the Great Depression. My students enjoy these lesson plans and have become more interested in 1930s. I sell these lesson plans individually, but by ordering them together you save time and money.

The following three lesson plans are included in this collection:
Bonus Army Great Depression Reading and Worksheet
Mapping the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression
People of the 1930s Hall of Fame/Shame Presentations

1.Bonus Army Worksheet
This activity includes an internet based primary document and worksheet on the Bonus Army during the Great Depression. I use the worksheet to help students better understand the importance and impact of the Bonus Army in Washington D.C. The website used is from a great primary source site, the Eye Witness to History site. http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/index.html

The following topic is covered in the primary document readings.

The Bonus Army Invades Washington, D.C., 1932
http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/bonusarmy.htm

Students read the document and answer the questions on the worksheet. I usually print out the reading for the students, but you can have students answer the questions using the websites. This activity is great for reinforcing information or complimenting topics being taught in the classroom on the Great Depression. The assignment can be used to generate classroom discussion or be used as homework. Feel free to modify this assignment as needed for your classes.

2. Dust Bowl Mapping Activity
This great mapping activity allows students to map the Dust Bowl, TVA, Hoover Dam and the 50 largest American cities in 1930. Just download the following two USA maps.

Please download the modern USA map PDF at

http://www.eduplace.com/ss/maps/pdf/us_nl.pdf

The modern USA Physical feature map PDF can be downloaded at

http://www.eduplace.com/ss/maps/pdf/usphys.pdf

I suggest using an 11x17 piece of paper for the map but an 8x11 piece of paper will work. You can decide what USA map PDF will work best for your students.

Depending on the age level of your students the Great Depression mapping activity will take at least 1 to 2 class periods. Students just follow simple instructions to complete the maps. The mapping activity can be easily modified by the teacher to work with any atlas or age level. My students enjoy this activity and it helps them visualize the locations impacted by the Dust Bowl and Great Depression.

The following information is covered in the mapping activity:

The location of the 50 states
Major rivers
Areas impacted by the Dust Bowl
Dust Bowl migration routes
Hoover Dam
TVA
50 largest American cities in 1930

3. 1930s Hall of Fame/Shame Research Presentation
This project lets students research important Americans of the 1930s. Students will create a poster or visual and give a short speech about their person. Students will make a decision about whether their 1930s person belongs in the Hall of Fame or Hall of Shame. Lastly, the teacher can have students take notes on the presentations for an open note quiz or test if the teacher chooses. Including research and notes the project takes about 3 to 5 class periods.

This lesson plan is included in my Great Depression Lesson Plan Collection.
