This project is a summative assessment on the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Students first examine a collection of 12 different ads from the 1920s. They advertise many different products including toy cars, fruit, ladies underwear, and soap. This collection comes with a worksheet that students will use to analyze the techniques and meanings of each advertisement, some questions connecting back to the actual novel. Inspired by the Dr. TJ Eckleburg billboard, students also have to complete a project in which they design one original advertisement for products appropriate to The Great Gatsby. They should refer back to the original advertisements for guidance. A complete project explanation, sample advertisements, and rubric are included in the full download. The download is a zip file, but the assignments are both word and pdf.
