This 3-5 day project gives students the opportunity to research the culture of the 1920s through key historical figures, sharing their work on the final day during a "Speakeasy" celebration, complete with costumes and period food, drink, and music. Students' understanding of their classmates' research is tested as they deduce the "secret identities" of their classmates during the Speakeasy celebration. This is a great culminating project after reading The Great Gatsby, but could also be fun in a Social Studies class during a 1920s unit. Students have a lot of fun and learn about the decade's historical figures in the process. Note: this project does require access to the internet for research.
Includes project assignment, celebration sign-up sheet, and list of famous people from the 1920s (from various backgrounds)
