THE GREAT GATSBY CHAPTER 2 LESSON -- VISUAL IMAGERY CONNECTION
When students see it, they understand it! Help them along by feeding them images of significant events from Fitzgerald's masterpiece. In true LessonPlanNOW fashion, print this assignment and use it next period.
Students will begin by viewing the images that pair with specific and significant passages and events that take place in the book. Gatsby isn't always easy to understand but with the visual piece already in place for each student, you give them a path to access the content quickly.
I provide at least three way to implement these into a lesson plan.
For one, the students are prompted to find a matching quote that identifies with each image (12 total). Students will often find different quotes that relate to each image so it is interesting to compare and contrast their findings.
After its completion, the activity serves as a meaningful guide for class discussion as students will compare their textual findings: Who is Doctor T.J. Eckleburg? Why such lavish parties? What does their behavior show us?
Guiding questions and slides at the end will enable students to make conclusions based on the significant characters and events they encountered while reading this chapter.
There are multiple versions I put together to appeal to individual teachers' needs.
I use clear font and provide space for students’ responses.
