Your students will absolutely LOVE this fun game! They will learn more about comparing numbers up to the hundred thousands.
Materials and Set up:
Glue the “START” strip onto the section that says “Glue “START” strip here”. This will make a large game board. Cut out each GREATER THAN or LESS THAN card and place them upside down in a pile. (Print on cardstock and laminate for extended durability).
Each player, or team, needs one game piece to use as a place marker.
How to Play:
Each player, or team, starts on the START space and must choose which END side they are going to be playing towards (opponents must choose opposite sides).
The first player will draw from the GREATER THAN or LESS THAN pile. He or she will find a number in the first row that is either greater than or less than the number on the card. If there is a number in the first row, the player may move his or her place marker to that space.
Now it is the next player’s, or team’s, turn. They will do the same thing, however, they will be going the opposite direction.
On the first player’s next turn, he or she draws another card from the pile. Now he or she must find a number that is either greater than or less than the number on the card that was drawn, however, it may only be a number that is directly touching the place that he or she is on. If the card does not work, the player must discard his or her GREATER THAN or LESS THAN card and lose a turn.
How to Win:
Each player’s, or team’s, goal is to make it to their END space. This will happen by drawing a GREATER THAN or LESS THAN card and moving to spaces that touch the space the player, or team, is currently on. The first player, or team, to make it the their END space wins the game! Players may move to the END space whenever they are on a space that touches it.
SEND OPPONENT BACK TO START: If a player lands on this spot, they may send their opponent (the other player) back to start. They may only land on this spot ONCE during the game. It is not required to land on this spot, just a game strategy.
TAKE ANOTHER TURN: If a player lands on this spot, they may draw again from the GREATER THAN or LESS THAN pile and take another turn. They may only land on this spot ONCE during the game. It is not required to land on this spot, just a game strategy.
