Hand down, this vocabulary activity works! My students have aced the quiz consistently all year. We created this activity set to ensure that the correct definitions are learned in thoughtful, fun, and engaging ways. The activity is completely textbook independent and can be done in Google Classroom, or on paper. It comes with:
1. STUDENTS READ/LEARN - Vocabulary words are supplied in a chart to be read as a class or individually.
2. IN OTHER WORDS VOCABULARY CARD SORT COMPETITION - Students engage with the definitions by matching definitions on printable cards. The vocabulary card sort comes with 12-16 words in cards with great graphics, teacher directions, student directions, and a winning team time display sheet.
3. IN OTHER WORDS GOOGLE CLASSROOM VOCABULARY INTERACTIVE- Students read definitions, then drag similar- reworded definitions to the correct word spot.
4. PRACTICE: PLAY QUIZLET - Students play vocabulary games in Quizlet either at home or in class with the same words/definitions!

Students analyze the growth and challenges faced by the United States through the use of the key concepts of federalism, republicanism government, diversity, territorial expansion, rights and liberties, labor systems and economy. A common theme throughout our lessons is that students support claims with evidence from secondary and primary source text.
