An Adventure in Critical Thinking, project work, and Greek culture!
Greece: Work It Out (11 Lessons) is our critical thinking workbook to accompany our adventure book Greece: Why Ask Why?
Lessons focus on speaking, discussion, critical thinking, research, computer, and presentation skills. In addition, there are adventure book-specific lessons on each country’s culture, as well as lessons helping students understand other cultures at a visceral level. Our teacher’s book explains the purpose behind each lesson, as well as provides example answers and responses to help teachers lead a class, as well as provide them with an arsenal should students need more direction or examples.
Files include a complete workbook of all lessons, a teacher’s book with answers and suggestions provided, and individual lessons (student page and teacher page combined).
Types of Lessons
In Your own Words:
Action and themes from the source adventure book are discussed for understanding. Students are encouraged to listen to others’ ideas while clearly expressing their own.
Let’s Talk About It:
Questions are presented for partner or group discussion which delve into the deeper themes of each book. Students will need to work together to find solutions.
Go Find It:
This exercise asks students to search the Internet to answer questions about each adventure book’s country of setting.
Walk The Walk:
Activities in this section allow students to experience life in different countries, as well as how people there may live and think differently.
Odd One Out:
Presented with four objects, people, places or concepts, students must choose the one that doesn’t belong. Here, connections must be drawn and students must think creatively. More, each new installment will incorporate previous countries until ultimately students are able to pull freely from their global experience gained in the books.
Here, students can work together or alone as they finish a project directly related each country or a theme in the book.
In addition, this workbook contains country specific lessons related to Greek culture. It also has lessons related to foreign languages, travel, and self-exploration.
Common Core Alignment
Please note that our lessons were not created specifically to follow the Common Core. Many of our lessons do, however, match many of the standards, so we have coded them for teachers who are currently using them.
