Are you starting a unit on Greece and want to do a study on the foundation of democratic government?
This "Greek Foundations of Democracy" Activity includes:
1) A graphic organizer about three major players in the foundation of democracy in Greece, Solon, Cleisthenes and Pericles. They will fill out this graphic organizer following a lecture from the teacher or by using the attached scrolls with a brief background on each person.
Students will then read two primary source quotes, one from Solon and one from Pericles. These quotes will give your students the opportunity to read writing from ancient Greece, which is something completely different from what they read today as well as see the opinions of two great historical thinkers. Attached are questions to help guide understanding for the primary sources.
2) A detailed answer key to help make grading a breeze and guide student understanding.
