Have you ever given your scholars a dictionary?
Initially in my classroom, I dusted those bad boys up and scholars were very upset. They protested, "We can use our phones!" This was a silent assignments. However soon there was a buzz. "Turn to page 466, look at those WWII planes; my name is in the dictionary; Miss, I didn't know that was a word..." There are alot of things you can still learn from a dictionary. It seems to be a lost art.
This particular close reading assignment includes the vocabulary component, close reading questions and writing assignment.
This is an excellent resource for early finishers, supplemental work & even those dreaded substitute plans.
