This is a creative poetry project designed to help your students compile research on a Greek god or goddess in a unique way! I primarily use this tool in middle grades (6,7,8). This resource is designed to be used as an introductory activity before we begin reading a variety of short myths. This also makes a great supplemental activity in my reading class for the novel: The Lightning Thief. It requires little to no prior knowledge of Greek Mythology.
I have approached this assignment in several ways. Some years, I have the students do online research about several gods and goddesses and choose one that peaks their interest, other times we have printed stories or used library resource books.
You will notice two versions of the bio poem templates, one which can be completed entirely without technology for research and publication (*Please note that if you choose the version without technology, you must provide the research on the gods and goddesses for your students). The assignment includes a handout with directions and a sample poem, a planning guide to record research, a rubric for self-evaluation by the student and easy grading for the teacher, and a final copy template.
The bio poem version using technology for research and publication includes the same items, but the poem will be typed using a publishing program rather than being handwritten. I require my students to add a photo and cite it using MLA format if they are typing on the computer.
In additional files you will find editable rubrics and an easy upload template for the planning guide to be completed using technology.
