I think you and your students will really like this lesson if I say so myself. It starts with a three page retelling of the Greek myth, Orion the Mighty Hunter. The retelling includes the characters: Orion, Hera, Zeus, Artemis, and a scorpion. It goes on to explain when and how to recognize the constellation of Orion in the sky. The vocabulary words taught and tested are: constellation, myth, fearless, and North Hemisphere. With the 17 multiple choice questions, many reading comprehension questions are included along with the vocabulary questions. Reading skills include: determining main ideas, recognizing the author’s purpose, drawing conclusions, making inferences, locating details and identifying cause-and-effect. Three pictures included are: a drawing of Orion within the constellation, the stars of the Orion constellation, and a clip art of the scorpion. You are also provided with equivalent Roman names of all the Greek story characters. The eighth page is the answer key. The lesson will be a good resource for providing test preparation for CORE Curriculum and state standardized tests. Being a word document, the lesson is easy to print off as well as easy to edit if you find necessary.
