Greek and Latin Lingo is a fun way to introduce your students to various prefixes, suffixes, and root words. Students will become familiar with the meanings of the most commonly used prefixes, suffixes, and roots by creating their own fabricated words and dictionary definitions.
When I do this with my students, I have them choose one prefix, root, and suffix. Then, they create their own definition for their fabricated word. I have them write out their own dictionary entry including the entry word, definition, and part of speech.
For an added challenge, after students have created their dictionary entries, allow them to test a partner to see if they can guess the definition based on the word parts chosen.
