Hello! This product will help you teach Greek and Latin affixes with minimal prep.
I use this product to introduce a new prefix and a suffix each week. I created 20 posters (2 to a page) of the 20 most common prefixes and 20 posters (2 to a page) of the 20 most common suffixes. Each poster lists the affix and its meaning.
My students enjoy using this product. I present one prefix poster and one suffix poster a week to my students. I display the poster and discuss the meaning of the affix. In the student notebook, I have students circle whether the affix is a prefix or a suffix, write the affix, and copy the definition. I then brainstorm a few words with them that use the affix and discuss the meanings. Next, students use a dictionary to find additional words with the affix. We share the words as a class, discussing the parts of the words and their meanings. Lastly, students choose one of the words and writes a sentence using it. If time allows, we share our sentences. Booklets can be periodically collected and assessed for spelling, capitalization, punctuation, complexity of sentences, and applicability of words chosen in brainstormed lists.
Included are two choices for student booklets. Choose to use either the page that includes sentence writing or the page that does not have sentence writing. After copying, cut the pages in half and attach the cover. Staple the pages and they are ready to go!
Each lesson takes 10 - 15 minutes, but could be extended with further discussion. Spread out over the year or several months, you can easily make sure to expose your students to a ton of Greek and Latin prefixes and suffixes!
