A root as its name suggests is a word or word part from which other words grow, usually through the addition of prefixes and or suffixes. Understanding the meaning of the common roots can help us figure the meaning of new words that we encounter. This packet contains three different hands-on activities for your students to enjoy while learning Greek and Latin roots.
In this activity students will match the Latin or Greek root to its meaning. Use with a small group of students or in a learning station. Includes 36 roots to identify as well as an Answer Key for easy checking.

This is a fun and easy way to review Greek and Latin roots. There are a total of 32 cards in this activity. As you play it; time your students and encourage them to beat their previous time with each attempt. Included is an answer key following the clip art pages for you to follow as the students complete this activity.
Spin a Greek or Latin Root
This activity provides your students an opportunity to apply their knowledge of the Greek and Latin roots you have being working on.
Each student within your group or literacy center will spin one spinner. They must identify the meaning of the root and find a word from the word pile that contains the root. They are to identify the word(decode it) and identify its meaning. (especially for your higher students). Includes two spinners one of Greek roots and one of Latin roots, as well as 48 words containing these roots.
