Learning Objective

Students will identify words that contain Greek and Latin roots. Students will identify the meaning of each root.

Description

This engaging activity puts a fun spin on learning the meanings of Latin and Greek roots! Better yet, it provides a visual connection to the meaning of word "roots"! It also makes a creative bulletin board or school hallway display!

I split this activity into two days.

Day 1- Students complete the Greek and Latin Roots worksheets. They read 60 sentences with 12 roots embedded within the sentences. They circle the words with roots and write the meaning of the root on the line. When they finish, they turn it in for you to check. (If you have a limited amount of time, you do not have to complete all of the worksheets- you can complete two worksheets with 30 sentences, as well.)

Day 2- students assemble the craftivity. They write the circled words from the worksheet on the flower petals, and they write the meaning of the root on the accompanying root bundle. Then, they cut everything out and assemble as directed.

Roots included:

port-

uni-

audi-

Student-friendly directions are included so that you can place the directions under your document camera, and students can refer to them as they complete the project. (An answer key is also included.)
