This interactive vocabulary notebook is full of foldable graphic organizer activities that improve students' reading, writing, and spelling by teaching them Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes. This memorable, cross-curricular project combines the joy of art with the rigor of language development. The editable lesson plans and templates make adaptation easy!
Greek & Latin roots are the building blocks of over 70% of the words in the English language. They are found in words that students encounter in all subjects - words like biography, chronological, coordinate, polygon, reciprocal, etc. By teaching students the meaning of roots, prefixes, and suffixes, we give them the ability to decode unfamiliar words. I made these foldable interactive notebooks to teach my students the meaning of the most common Greek and Latin roots. Included are 70 interactive notebook activities that will teach your students the meaning of hundreds of words made from over 150 different roots!
Each root activity covers 6-15 words. Students sort the words into the foldable graphic organizers and define a preselected set of 5-7 words.

This interactive notebook is unique because the activities are grouped contextually. For example, the Greek root -anti-,
the Latin root -contra-,
and the Anglo-Saxon root -counter-,
are on the same INB because all three mean against
. By grouping the activities by meaning, the resource covers over 150 roots on fewer than 80 notebook pages.
Everything you need to get started is included!
• Title Page and Tab
• Grading Rubric
• Table of Contents
• How to make a notebook pocket
• Introduction to Greek and Latin Roots INB
• Over 70 fun and challenging INBs for over 150 prefixes, roots, and suffixes.
Each one-page printable handout has everything students need to complete the interactive notebook entry. You just have to distribute the handout and show the instructions and examples. I show the instructions by projecting the Powerpoint to the screen in the front of the room. A document camera or overhead projector will work, too.
The foldables are appealing to boys and girls in the 4th - 8th grade age range. This is not just a bundle of graphic organizers. Each foldable is a visual mnemonic that helps students memorize the meaning of roots.
The bundle is easy-to-use. There's a table of contents, index by root, and an index by meaning, so you can easily find the root you are looking for.
