Teaching Greek and Latin roots is a high bang-for-your-buck instructional strategy. According to research half-some estimates are higher, as much as 75%-of all English words contain the familiar patterns of Greek and Latin roots. Studying Greek and Latin roots as part of a comprehensive English Language Arts program supports students with spelling, word acquisition, and reading comprehension.
This course of study was developed to be a spiraling curriculum spread over the three middle school years with two sets taught each year. Set one contains 100 roots taught in ten lessons. Sets two through six follow the ten lesson pattern, but contain 50 new roots and 50 review roots from a previous set. In this way, students add to their knowledge base while reviewing and solidifying previous learning.
This freebie list is the first from the sixty lists (six sets) I have created. They come in sets of ten and can be purchased as sets only or with access to online quizzes and badges to game-ify your class. The freebie contains all of the parts.
