Looking for a collection of Greek and Roman Myths that have been taught in a high school Mythology class? Look no further! I have taught and used these close reading guides in my own classroom. Even though my class is an elective class, I have aligned all my questions with Common Core standards. These myths are not only interesting but teach valuable morals and have complex themes and ideas in them.

Not a mythology expert? No need. I've included a 1 page sheet with notes on any gods, goddesses, or historical figures mentioned. These short myths are a great addition to any mythology unit or to add variety to your close reading options.

For each myth, there are two different formats of the myth. Use whichever version best suits your needs.

  • Close Reading with room to annotate and answer questions - 4 pages per student.
  • Just the myth (no room to annotate), with follow up questions on a separate paper - 2 pages of the myth (I would make a class set) and 1 page per student.

Answer suggestions have been included. For the Close Reading answer suggestions, the questions are the same as the one-pager, just without the text.

The questions are aligned to the following CC Standards: RL.1, RL.2, RL.3, RL.4, RL.5, RL.6, and L.5

Version 1: 4 pages of student worksheets including the myth

Version 2: 2 pages of the myth, 1 page student worksheet
