Directions: Print, cut out and laminate eggs and ham.
I use this activity to introduce blending and segmenting onsets and rimes.
Read the story Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss
After reading the story, pick a random ham piece and segment the word for students – for example – car /c/ /ar/. Have students blend the sounds together to figure out the word.
Next, give each child an egg. Go through the ham pieces, continuing to segment while the students attempt to guess the words. If the child with the correct picture guesses the word, allow them to keep the ham piece, continue until all ham pieces have been segmented and blended.
