American East Indian population in the United States is not only increasing at a rapid rate, but interest in Eastern Asian cultures is also increasing among large groups of Americans.
This lesson is a unique way to teach basic mathematical measurement and geometry and symmetry while also learning about another culture and teaching social studies.
I had wonderful results while teaching this to various groups of 3-5th graders.
We start with a little cultural awareness and interactive language lesson, followed by a short lecture on India, the population and the traditional caste system. Following the lecture we move into the symmetry lesson and they use exact specifications to create an artistic, beautiful traditional Welcome Sign.
