This resource contains 2 assessments on John Gardner’s novel, _Grendel_. The first is a reading check identification assessment. The directions ask students to explain the significance of ten of twelve items (a mixture of objects, people, and quotations). The second is an objective test that includes 10 multiple choice, 10 true or false, 15 quotation identification questions. Keys are included for both the short answer reading check and the objective test. You could also combine these assessments if you wish. Please let me know if you would like the Word document instead.
