In this video, teach the basics of how to grid an image, a blank sheet of paper the same size, and a blank sheet of paper to enlarge an image.
Every year I teach my Introduction to Art students how to use the grid method as a drawing tool. It helps give my students who are weaker in their drawing skills a tool to learn how to break images down into lines and shapes to more successfully draw them.
I am always shocked at how many students struggle to draw an accurate grid using a ruler. I often find myself repeating instructions and spending a lot of time correcting mistakes. This video helps provide the students with a resource they can view at their own pace and review if needed.
In addtion to using this video to introduce the assignment and help students review the steps, it's also very easy to hand to a student who missed the class without taking away your valuable classtime to teach them one on one.
Check out my drawing grid method unit (with three grid drawing based lesson plans) here.
The grid method is also included in my yearlong Introduction to Art bundle. With this pack you don't have to plan a single day of the school year in your Intro to Art class. Check it out here.
