Middle School students love reading the Grimm's Fairytales. Most people, even adults, haven't read the original Grimm's Fairytales and are only familiar with cartoon or Hollywood renditions. This unit is a great one or two week literature focus for advanced 5th graders or middle school students.
This unit includes:
-reading seven of the most famous Grimm’s fairytales
-day-by-day unit outline/lesson plan
-an online resource of free pdf copies of the Grimm’s Fairytales
-1 mini-lesson on “stock characters”
-1 group-work handout and answer key for “Stock Characters”
-2 exciting in-class review games
-3 expository writing prompts
-5 creative writing prompts
-end-of-unit test & answer key on Grimm’s Fairytales
I have done this unit with four sets of 7th graders, and all of my students loved it. And for many of my students, this unit was their favorite of the year. The creative writing prompts are exceptionally fun and allow the students to really think outside of the box and exercise all of their creativity.
Enjoy bringing the Grimm's Fairytales into the 21st century with your students!
