This grinch like mini unit is a great companion to the popular holiday story. It is designed to compare how the main character changes from the beginning of the story to the end of the story. The unit has three different writing layouts: one with a space for a picture for both the beginning and ending (great for emerging writers), one for comparing both the beginning and ending on the same page (for more advanced emergent writers), and one full length page for the beginning and ending to be used with the corresponding graphic organizer (for writers who are ready to write a paragraph and use supporting details). The unit also contains two venn-digrams for comparing the character traits/actions at the beginning and ending, and one for comparing the book to the film. Each of the venn-digrams has a corresponding writing page. Lastly, the unit includes a craft with the patterns that could be used for tracing or printed and copied on color copy paper. This is a great unit to not only teach about character development and character traits but also encourage writing development in a fun holiday filled way.
