We've all heard about the research pointing to the importance of developing grit. Grit happens to be the one personal quality that sets apart highly successful people from everyone else. To encourage grit, students will first need to understand the qualities and traits associated with this growth mindset. This resource will provide your students with a problem solving activity that lends to discussion, role play, writing and decision-making using kid-friendly scenario task cards. Students will read and decide if the situation shows an example of grit. Students can use the Grit Trait worksheet to support their reasons with evidence. Teachers can use this resource during Morning Meeting, in Character Education Lessons, or during the beginning of the school year or marking periods when setting student goals. Guidance counselors looking for lesson plan ideas or small group counseling activities can use the cards to help students develop grit, and for those struggling with negativity and attitude problems. The task cards would also be useful in a Gifted and Talented program, to promote a growth mindset and encourage being "gritty". Blank Grit cards included to make your own, or allow students to create their own.
