This activity will allow students (or pairs of students) the opportunity to choose items from a grocery ad and add up decimals or multiple items and multiply decimals trying to get closest to a spending goal. Students use real world examples to practice these skills. There is one activity for adding decimals and subtracting from their goal and there is another activity for multiplying decimals, adding totals, then subtracting from their goal. The color grocery ad page is included. I use this with my 5th graders for adding activity and at the end of the year again using the multiplying activity when we work on higher grade standards.
This follows 5th grade Common Core math standards 5.NBT.7 and Math TEKS 7.2B
