1.OA.7 Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false.
This activity targets 1.OA.7. and uses addition and subtraction equations with sums of 10 through 18..
There are 9 activities. Each activity includes a set of:
• True/False Sorting Mats
• 12 equation cards per activity (6 addition/6 subtraction)
• A printable template for manipulatives
• A student answer document for student accountability/differentiated assignments
• Teacher’s answer key
Each activity has been coded with a different flower to help with assignment management when using at a center.
This is a simple activity that will work perfectly as an independent activity or when students work together at a math center.
It would also make a great simple assessment piece for report card check-ups. If it is easy and it works- it is a winner! As a teacher, I created this for my class and it was a huge success in helping me get those check-ups done on this standard.
A PRINTABLE STUDENT ANSWER DOCUMENT is also provided to assist with student accountability -- as teachers, we are well aware that when some students are working in less structured environments such as centers or small groups, accountability pieces can be useful tools to assist us as we evaluate student productivity. Student answer documents also provide an organizational format for students who are spatially challenged and cannot format their work into an organized unit.
Student answer documents are also excellent to have because they are tangible, authentic examples of student work. When you need documentation or examples of student work often required for math portfolios, IEPs, AIPs, Parent-Teacher conferences, special education placement conferences, etc., you need not worry because you already have what you need.
