GROSS Close Reading: Differentiated close reading for 2nd or 3rd graders!
You know those students who say they hate reading...maybe they are reading the wrong stuff? Give them something silly and gross that will have them cracking up. They'll look up at you with a smile as they ask, "this is really my reading assignment?" Rest assured that this goofy content is perfectly aligned to the reading standards. They'll be practicing real reading skills while reading all about stuff some kids find hilarious - poop, nose hair, and boogers. It is written in a silly tone but with factual content.
If you are a light-hearted teacher who can laugh with your students, then this is perfect for you. If you don't think you can laugh about why in the world someone would ever eat a disgusting booger, then this product might not match your personality.
This product includes three articles. Each article has two versions for easy differentiation. The version A articles are written at a lower level (for students reading below 2nd grade level). The version B articles are written at a level meeting the 2nd and 3rd grade Common Core reading level range. You can choose the level you feel is most appropriate for your students.
Both sets of passages seamlessly use the same close reading and text dependent response pages (two pages per passage).
