This Groundhog Day Color by Number is the perfect way to practice subitizing and learn some fun facts about Groundhog Day.

What is subitizing?

Subitizing is the ability to identify the number of a small group of objects without counting. Like on dominos or dice! Number sense/ subitizing is an important skill for math.

INCLUDED IN THIS GROUNDHOG DAY COLOR BY NUMBER:

•2 sets of 6-themed color by number pages.

•One set the crayons are in color and the second set is black and white with color words on the crayons.

•Begin with subitizing 4 numbers and work up to 8 numbers per page. (#0-9)

•Each page includes a fun fact!

*For the color white, I leave the spaces blank. It’s no fun to color white.

**The counting images are gray, so the coloring will cover them better. Directly printing these pages from a computer will ensure the gray images are printed. Many copy machines will not catch the gray and leave the spaces blank.

Understand that each successive number name refers to a quantity that is one larger.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
