Groundhog Day Digital Activities in Google Slides™

This presentation contains 8 different activities your students can complete in Google Slides™ (will need to stay in editing mode). They will learn all about the origin of Groundhog Day and how shadows are formed. These activities touch on the following academic topics:

•Visual Literacy
•Comprehension
•Writing
•Poetry
•Geometric Shapes
•Pictographs
•Making Predictions

Activities include:

1. What is Groundhog Day? Students will watch a 3.5 minute embedded YouTube video about Groundhog Day and answer 5 comprehension questions in the table below.

2. Groundhog Day Summary: Students will use the information learned in the first slide to type a summary all about Groundhog Day.

3. All About Shadows: Students will watch the 4 minute embedded YouTube video about how shadows are formed and answer the 5 comprehension questions in the table below.

4. Match It: Students will match the geometrical groundhog bodies to their corresponding shadow. They will use the line tool to create line to connect the groundhogs to their shadows.

5. My Prediction: Students will type a sentence or paragraph about their Groundhog Day prediction.

6. Class Predictions: Students will poll their classmates about their Groundhog Day prediction. They will take their data and form a pictograph by clicking and dragging the sun and cloud icons that are provided.

7. Groundhog Acrostic: Students will write an acrostic poem using the word GROUNDHOG.

8. The Report: Have students follow the news to see if Phil was able to see or did not see his shadow. Students will write a news report on this slide.

A table of contents is included that provides students with directions for each activity in the presentation.

All slides are set to print on 8.5x11 paper if you wish to print.

Can be completed on laptops/computers, Chromebooks, or iPads. If using an iPad, the slideshow will need to be in presentation mode when viewing the videos.

This product comes as a link in a PDF file. First, make sure you are signed into your Google™ account. Click on the link and you will be prompted to "Make a Copy". Rename the file to whatever you would like. It will be sent directly to your Drive! Disperse to your students via Google Classroom™, Google Drive™ Shared folder, your Learning Platform, etc..
