Have your students celebrate Groundhog Day (February 2) by engaging them in this fun activity on or before Groundhog Day. Students love creating a unique "Groundhog Day Glyph" based on a series of questions unique to them and Groundhog Day. Students simply select appropriate colors to color a "Groundhog Glyph" by responding to the questions. You can also use this as a time for your students to practice speaking in front of a large group by having partners go to the front of the room and tell the class 3 things they learned about their partner by observing the Groundhog Glyph. Finally, you will have something festive to display on your classroom bulletin board for the month of February.
Older students will love being able to read the set of directions while working independently. Younger students will be able to complete this activity with oral directions by the teacher.
