Groundhog Day is a holiday that typically goes unnoticed in the upper elementary classroom, but Groundhog Day Probability is a great way to work the holiday into an upper elementary classroom! This set is perfect for centers and guided instruction on or around Groundhog Day.
Four probability activities are included:
- Groundhog Race Dice Game: Students will add the sum of two dice to move their groundhog in a race. Can be played independently or in groups. A recording sheet has been included for students to make predictions, record data, and draw conclusions.
- Groundhog Spin Game: Students will create a spinner and spin the spinner 20 times to determine what Phil will wear to the Groundhog Day celebration. Can be played independently or in groups. A recording sheet has been included for students to make predictions, record data, and draw conclusions.
- Sample Space Worksheet: Punxsutawney Phil gives students different scenarios and they must construct a sample space using the information.
- Will Phil See His Shadow? Worksheet: Students will determine the odds of Phil seeing his shadow under various weather conditions.
