Searching for a fun new way for your students to practice reading and decoding CVC words as you learn about Groundhog's Day?
Want a center that can be used with a Groundhog theme, but then also throughout the year and not seasonally based?
Want a center that is little to no prep but has your little kiddos up and about?
Need a center that can be used several ways and can be differentiated?
This Groundhog's Day themed 'read the room' activity will engage your independent learners and they will have no idea they are practicing reading and decoding!
***It includes 2 full set centers- one for looking at the word and finding the picture on the recording sheet and the other has the picture and students must write the word. You can put one set as a 'read the room' and the other set at your phonics center!!!***
This pack will allow you to incorporate fun seasonal activities into your curriculum!
The center can also be used as a 'stationery' center rather than read the room. Place cards in baskets and/or buckets rather than tape around the room!
You can use it in a seasonal themed sensory bin too! Simply fill your bin/bucket with shredded green paper (to resemble grass)! Add these cards and have students pull and match word cards to picture cards or pull word cards and record the answer on the recording sheet!
Use it for early finishers basket too!

Directions/Suggestions For Use:
Print and laminate cards. Tape cards around the room for a ‘read the room’ activity or they can be placed in a
basket/bucket on a table for a stationery center activity
(Use it in a sensory bin-fill a bin/basket with shredded green paper to resemble ‘grass’)
For set 1: Students look at the picture(s), read the word on the card circle or color the picture that matches the word on the recording sheet.
For set 2: Students look at the picture, ‘tap it out’ and record the word on the recording sheet that corresponds to the number on the card.
You can also tape the CVC picture cards around the room- give students the 3rd recording sheet- as they find them they write the word next to the picture (this one is not ‘seasonally based’ and can be used all year!)
Use for centers, center extension activities and/or early finisher basket:
*Have students match word cards to picture cards
*Place a set of these cards in a basket/bag.
Students can sort them by beginning, middle or ending sound.
*Partner match up- give ½ your students word cards and the other ½ picture cards. They have to move about the room to find their ‘match’ partner
