Use this activity as a prior knowledge assessment, post lesson assessment, or discussion lesson on Groundhog Day! Perfect for grades 2 - 5.
Included in this packet are:
- Teacher direction page
- 2 True False heading cards
- 18 cards with facts to sort
- 4 page answer key with detailed information to enhance discussion
- Quick written assessment prompt
Present the fact cards one at a time to students. Vote on whether the fact is correct or not. After sorting the cards, conduct your other Groundhog Day lesson(s), and then return to the cards to move any misconceptions. Finally, check the responses against the answer key and discuss.
If this activity is your lesson, there is plenty of information for a rich, informative discussion. After the initial sort, check each card against the answer key, discuss, and move the card to the correct column. To conclude, have students respond to the short writing prompt.
