Groundhog Day Activities that are geared for Canada! The resource includes two booklets (fiction and nonfiction), comprehension activity and Groundhog Expert Certificates.
This resource is part of a Groundhog Bundle
In this resource students:
- read facts about groundhogs in a nonfiction booklet
. On the last page of the booklet, students write their own fact(s) about groundhogs and illustrate it. A colour version is also available.
- comprehension activity
: using the word bank, students complete the close activity and label parts of a groundhog.
- fiction booklet
: students read about a Canadian groundhog predicting the weather. Templates are provided to customize the cover for: Wiarton Willie, Shubenacadie Sam, Brandon Bob, Fred la marmotte, Winnipeg Willow and Balzac Billy. A blank template is included for any other name. Students also fill in the groundhog’s name (specific to the area they live in) to help complete the story. There are two options for the last page of the book: 1) the groundhog sees his shadow; 2) the groundhog does not see his shadow. Students also draw the ending of the story. Available in colour also.
